Every Vote Counts

The ballots were counted for the election of an alternate delegate to represent Multnomah County Republicans at State Central Committee meetings. All PCP's who attended the July 27th Central Committee meeting to cast their vote awaited the results. The candidates sat in anticipation as Chairman Kushner was given the outcome. After a moment of shuffling behind the podium, the announcement was made: "it's a tie." Both Greg Tenney and Mark Katzke received an equal number of votes.

With no clear winner, Chairman Kushner later commented "I've read the bylaws and there is no provision for a tie vote." It was decided that the executive committee will take up the issue at their next meeting.

A precinct committee person (PCP) is the only party official elected by Republicans on Election Day. They vote for party leadership and on resolutions, thus influencing the direction of the Party.

"Perhaps we will have to vote again at the next Central Committee meeting" stated Chairman Kushner. Let your voice be heard, this is an example of the importance of fulfilling your duties as a PCP. The Republican Party is energized and moving forward after the stinging defeat of the 2008 election cycle. A PCP sets the party direction by their involvement in the process. Every vote truly does count.
