COVID-19 Petition

On April 20, 2020, the Central Committee of the Multnomah County Republican Party adopted the language set forth below as a resolution of the Party, and by this Petition, we ask you to join us in publicly showing your support in demanding that Governor Kate Brown repeal her illegal and unconstitutional orders shutting down Oregon.

WHEREAS Governor Kate Brown has purported to shut down businesses all over Oregon without adequate transparency and the input of Oregon’s elected representatives; and

WHEREAS the Governor has closed the State’s schools without adequate planning, imposing enormous hardships upon Oregon parents and students; and

WHEREAS the Governor has purported to act in concert with Washington and California, whose circumstances are very different; and

WHEREAS experience so far demonstrated that COVID-19, while more contagious and virulent than the typical flu virus, is not beyond the capacity of Oregon’s health systems to handle, while hospitals remain at below normal utilization, nurses and others are being laid off, and vital health care treatments for non-COVID-19 have been denied; and

WHEREAS the Governor’s orders have inflicted widespread and catastrophic unemployment and economic loss; and

WHEREAS isolation and lockdown are increasing instances of depression, suicide attempts, domestic violence, substance abuse, child abuse and other mental health crises; and

WHEREAS, the Governor has not allowed Oregon businesses and their customers to develop and implement their own common sense means of mitigating personal risk, and they should be given freedom to do so; and

WHEREAS the Governor has demonstrated a pattern of delay and indecision in getting Oregon back to work; and

WHEREAS the risk to the public health from COVID-19 may never be fully eliminated, and the Governor’s actions have failed to balance the human and economic costs of maintaining a lockdown against the potential for disease; and

WHEREAS quarantining is the confining of sick people, while tyranny is the confining of the healthy;

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the undersigned petitioners demand that Governor Brown immediately remove restrictions put in place by her unlawful and unconstitutional Executive Order (“EO”) 20-12, repealing and replacing it with a detailed and careful plan consistent with the science-based guidelines put forth by President Trump at

    I agreed with the isolation measures in the first month or so of the pandemic. It was motivated by safety and we needed people to stay put to figure out what’s going on; it made sense. The newest executive order was politically motivated. This is wrong and could be construed as tyrannical. I am not Republican or Democrat for the record. I want what is right as an American citizen only and refuse to become loyal to any of these two dangerous factions. Stand up for what is right for all humans, not what is blue or red.

    Im not a Democrat or a Republican. I am a moderate and im not alone. I see good and bad policies in both main parties, and in both, far to much extremism. The normal folks who don’t have any use for extreme ideals are having their voices shouted over by loud and intolerant members of these extreme parties. Before in oregon for many years, It was balanced out a bit, and moderates could still get their voices heard if they spoke loudly enough. But lately the balance has been lost. The democratic party has become problematic. They have lost their way and their policies have been hijacked by the most extreme elements in their party. Those who disagree are greeted with open hostility, and intolerance, all while shouting that hatred will not be tolerated. They’ve become lost and cities like Portland have greatly lost their way. It needs to stop and balance needs to be restored. Sanity must find its voice again.

    First step.. This lockdown must end. Its causing as much harm as good.

    Oregon needs to be addressed, managed, and represented as a whole. Not just 1 side or the other. Political representation has become a team sport. Regardless of who is, and how they’re affected. Their is no regard for the rural contribution and communities within this state. We need someone who understands there is a tremendous amount of this state that Kate Brown does not understand. The rural economics of farm and forestry mean nothing more to the controlling party than another sock reach into for more tax money to feed their selfish wasteful city minded way of life. To hell with the rural economy, to hell with the rural way of life. Kate Brown was nothing more than a political water boy that fell into power when her also CROOKED anti rural minded predecessor fell out of glory when he finally got caught misappropriating tax dollars to fit personal desires.

    It’s time. This is lunacy! Please for the love of god let people decide for themselves. We are not children.

    Freedom over “safety.”
