COVID-19 Petition

On April 20, 2020, the Central Committee of the Multnomah County Republican Party adopted the language set forth below as a resolution of the Party, and by this Petition, we ask you to join us in publicly showing your support in demanding that Governor Kate Brown repeal her illegal and unconstitutional orders shutting down Oregon.

WHEREAS Governor Kate Brown has purported to shut down businesses all over Oregon without adequate transparency and the input of Oregon’s elected representatives; and

WHEREAS the Governor has closed the State’s schools without adequate planning, imposing enormous hardships upon Oregon parents and students; and

WHEREAS the Governor has purported to act in concert with Washington and California, whose circumstances are very different; and

WHEREAS experience so far demonstrated that COVID-19, while more contagious and virulent than the typical flu virus, is not beyond the capacity of Oregon’s health systems to handle, while hospitals remain at below normal utilization, nurses and others are being laid off, and vital health care treatments for non-COVID-19 have been denied; and

WHEREAS the Governor’s orders have inflicted widespread and catastrophic unemployment and economic loss; and

WHEREAS isolation and lockdown are increasing instances of depression, suicide attempts, domestic violence, substance abuse, child abuse and other mental health crises; and

WHEREAS, the Governor has not allowed Oregon businesses and their customers to develop and implement their own common sense means of mitigating personal risk, and they should be given freedom to do so; and

WHEREAS the Governor has demonstrated a pattern of delay and indecision in getting Oregon back to work; and

WHEREAS the risk to the public health from COVID-19 may never be fully eliminated, and the Governor’s actions have failed to balance the human and economic costs of maintaining a lockdown against the potential for disease; and

WHEREAS quarantining is the confining of sick people, while tyranny is the confining of the healthy;

BE IT RESOLVED THAT the undersigned petitioners demand that Governor Brown immediately remove restrictions put in place by her unlawful and unconstitutional Executive Order (“EO”) 20-12, repealing and replacing it with a detailed and careful plan consistent with the science-based guidelines put forth by President Trump at

    Kate Brown is dishonest and corrupt! She signed an executive order for carbon emissions the day after she ordered everyone in Oregon to “stay home”. What she considers “essential services”, is truly ridiculous, all Oregon businesses are essential. Kate Brown isn’t “essential”! She should leave, especially since she refused to update the unemployment system and many Oregonians aren’t receiving benefits and are truly hurting!!!!!

    I want to understand why you as our Governor seem to think that you can keep us as Oregonians prisoners in our own homes. Without just cause or without reason.

    You say you have entered into a pact with all these other states yet they are opening slowly. Yet you are not. So you lie. Explain yourself to us please!!!!!!

    Statistical evidence does not justify Governor Brown’s Executive Orders in Oregon. This is a blatant power grab.

    Violating our Oregon statutes and Federal Constitution is wrong under any circumstance. There are effective means of mitigating the damage this virus can do without shuttering of businesses and invasion of private rights.

    There is absolutely NO REASON that Oregon should not reopen by May 1, 2020, especially with the very low number of cases. It is ridiculous to expect parents to educate their children from home, while the government is still demanding that you pay for services such as; schools, parks and recreation, etc. with your property taxes when you are not receiving these services. My husband works at these hospitals everyday, he has stated that there are virtually minimal cases (6 co-vid cases yesterday) of covid-19 in the hospital, they only had 65 total patients in all, almost a ghost town for hospitals. Talking with many of the doctors, if this continues, it will collapse our healthcare system here completely!!
